Abstract:

We present in this paper a Biometric attendance Management System (BAMS) model for an academic institution. Basically the study was implemented with only one academic level in a Nigerian university environment. The sample test was conducted for only twenty five students out of a total of eighty students in a particular course. The attendance was marked after each student identification. Results of this study revealed a standard deviation of 2.87, maximum mean variance of 0.625 and a general efficiency of 68.6%. The standard error of 0.094 was minimal, while the pure error of 1.16 was recorded. The BAMS model yielded a better performance of about 3.8secs. Reports generated also took 30 seconds for the model. The success rate was well above 90%. The result also showed improved performance over manual attendance management system.
